Bayan Mining confirms rare earth elements at Desert Star project. ASX-listed Bayan Mining and Minerals has received mineralogical confirmation of rare earth element bearing minerals in high-grade samples from its Desert Star project in California. X-ray diffraction analysis identified monazite, allanite, and xenotime as principal hosts of REE mineralisation, with the mineral assemblage showing a light rare earth element dominant system enriched in neodymium and praseodymium. These elements are critical for electric vehicle magnets, renewable energy systems, and defence technologies. Desert Star is strategically positioned just 4.5 kilometres northeast of MP Materials' Mountain Pass mine. The company has secured drilling approvals and plans to launch its maiden drill program to test the subsurface extent of the monazite-bearing REE system.
