OMC Power has entered the EV battery repurposing business in partnership with Honda Motors Japan, marking a significant move in India's renewable energy sector. The company will leverage used EV batteries to create energy storage solutions for homes and commercial establishments. Honda, which acquired a minority stake in OMC Power in October 2025, will supply used batteries after three years of vehicle usage for another seven years of repurposing. OMC Power expects approximately six million EV batteries annually for repurposing as Honda scales production. The company is investing Rs 4,000 crore to build a renewable portfolio of 1 GWp by 2030, with 600 MWp from rooftop solarisation targeting the healthcare sector. This initiative addresses growing concerns about EV battery sustainability while creating a circular economy for battery management and energy storage applications.
