Turkey secures $6.75 billion for massive rail expansion. The country has reached preliminary agreements with six major international lenders including the World Bank, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to finance the 125 kilometer Northern Ring Railway Project. This transformative infrastructure initiative will connect Gebze to Halkali via the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, linking Istanbul's two primary airports and creating a crucial cross-Bosphorus rail corridor. Upon completion, the railway is projected to handle 33 million passengers and 30 million tonnes of freight annually, significantly expanding Turkey's logistics capacity between Asia and Europe. Currently, the Marmaray tunnel provides limited freight transport at restricted daily hours, moving only 1.7 million tonnes between 2020 and 2025.
