SpiceJet's Fleet Crisis Threatens International Routes
SpiceJet's operational capacity has shrunk to just 21 aircraft, putting the airline dangerously close to losing its international operations license. Indian aviation regulations require airlines to maintain either a minimum of 20 aircraft or allocate 20% of their fleet capacity to domestic routes. With only 21 planes currently in service, SpiceJet risks falling below this critical threshold, which could force the carrier to suspend all international flights. The airline has faced severe financial challenges and aircraft groundings in recent months, making regulatory compliance increasingly difficult. If SpiceJet cannot meet the minimum fleet requirement, it would be forced to focus exclusively on domestic operations until it rebuilds its aircraft inventory.
