Major fuel price adjustment hits Indian consumers as oil marketing companies raise petrol and diesel by three rupees per litre and CNG by two rupees per kilogram. This marks the first increase since April 2022, following over two years of frozen prices since March 2024. State-owned OMCs including Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum cited substantial losses from elevated crude oil costs, with diesel sales generating losses of approximately one hundred rupees per litre. Opposition parties have raised inflation concerns, arguing the hike will pressure consumer prices and potentially lower growth estimates. Petrol prices now range from ninety-seven rupees seventy-seven paise in Delhi to one hundred eight rupees seventy-four paise in Kolkata.
