Regulatory Reform Patterns Across Nations
A comprehensive study of 3,590 regulatory reforms across 189 countries from 2005 to 2022 reveals critical insights into how economies modernize their rules. Wealthier nations consistently achieve higher reform success rates and attempt more reforms overall, yet individual reforms have less regulatory impact compared to poorer countries. The research suggests richer economies possess superior capacity to compensate those disadvantaged by regulatory changes, enabling smoother reform passage. Technological reforms succeed more frequently than administrative or legal reforms, indicating that veto points in approval processes significantly influence outcomes. Reform attempt rates strongly correlate with success rates globally, though reform impact varies substantially.
