Chennai Metro Rail achieved significant ridership growth in April 2026, recording over 90 lakh passengers throughout the month. The system transported a total of 90,18,069 commuters between April 1 and April 30, with peak single-day ridership reaching 3,65,807 passengers. This strong performance continues a positive trajectory established in 2025, when the metro first crossed the one-crore passenger mark in July with 1.03 crore travelers, followed by another milestone in September with 1.01 crore passengers. The NCMC Singara Chennai Card emerged as the dominant ticketing preference, accounting for nearly half of all transaction modes, alongside CMRL Travel Card, single-journey Paper QR tokens, and Static QR options at stations. These metrics demonstrate robust urban mobility demand and effective public transportation adoption in Chennai's growing metropolitan economy.
