Hanoi accelerates airport infrastructure development. Vietnam's capital seeks temporary closure of a 7-kilometer stretch on the Hanoi-Thai Nguyen Expressway to expedite construction of a connection road to the new Gia Binh International Airport. The $7.4 billion airport project, approved by Vietnam's National Assembly in December 2025, represents a major infrastructure investment for the region. The expansion will widen the expressway from four to ten lanes as part of the airport link initiative. Located approximately 30 kilometers from central Hanoi in Bac Ninh Province, Gia Binh is designed to handle 30 million passengers annually by 2030, scaling to 50 million by 2050. The 41.3-kilometer connection road carries a separate $3.15 billion investment and will serve as the primary transportation artery between the new airport and central Hanoi.
