LaGuardia Airport Reopens After Fatal Runway Crash Investigation Begins
LaGuardia Airport resumed operations Monday afternoon following a fatal collision between an Air Canada Bombardier CRJ-900 and a fire truck on Runway 4 late Sunday. The crash killed the aircraft's pilot and co-pilot, with 43 others hospitalized. Federal investigators launched an immediate probe into the cause of the high-speed impact. The airport implemented a ground stop and remained closed until 2 p.m. Monday. Runway 4 will stay closed for several days as the National Transportation Safety Board photographs evidence and collects debris. The flight data and cockpit voice recorders have been retrieved and transported to Washington for analysis.
