India's AI regulatory framework takes shape. The government's newly formed Artificial Intelligence Governance and Economic Group is developing unified legal standards for AI companies, including large language model developers and chatbot makers. The framework will establish clear regulatory boundaries and sandboxes for AI products operating in India. Beyond regulation, the initiative targets focused funding in healthcare, agriculture, and education sectors with measurable results expected within twelve to eighteen months. The government also plans reskilling and upskilling programs to address potential job displacement from AI advancement. A separate Technology and Policy Expert Committee will provide technical guidance, combining expertise from IIT institutions and industry representatives to shape India's comprehensive AI strategy.
