Indian pharmaceutical industry positioned for global leadership through innovation and investment. Union Minister J P Nadda emphasized that strengthening research and development is critical as the global pharma landscape shifts toward biologics, biosimilars, and specialty medicines. The government has committed to creating a policy framework supporting innovation and research capabilities. The recently announced Biopharma SHAKTI initiative allocates Rs 10,000 crore over five years to advance the sector. India, traditionally recognized as the pharmacy of the world for affordable generics, must now transition toward high-value innovation through increased investment, deeper industry participation, and effective public-private partnerships.
