India's restaurant tech sector faces a major tax crackdown. PetPooja, a SaaS-based POS provider, is under investigation for allegedly enabling restaurants to manipulate sales data and evade taxes. Tax officials have raided nearly 100 restaurants across 45 cities, uncovering concealed sales patterns. In Punjab alone, officials estimate over 5,000 crore rupees in sales were deleted from digital records. PetPooja claims it is merely an infrastructure provider and that edit capabilities are standard industry features. The company maintains comprehensive audit logs and has cooperated with authorities. Meanwhile, Pine Labs completed its first acquisition since listing, purchasing ecommerce startup Shopflo for 88 crore rupees in an all-cash deal. The acquisition strengthens Pine Labs' position in digital merchant payments and ecommerce.
