Federal judge Cynthia Rufe has ordered the Trump administration to restore slavery-related exhibits at Philadelphia's President's House by Friday. The exhibits, which detail nine people enslaved by George Washington, were removed last month following a Trump executive order claiming to "restore truth and sanity to American history." Judge Rufe criticized the removal, comparing the administration's actions to the totalitarian revisionism in George Orwell's 1984. She emphasized that the federal government cannot "disassemble historical truths" and highlighted the importance of preserving accurate historical narratives. The National Park Service removed the 34 slavery-related panels, arguing that monuments should focus on American achievements. Despite the Justice Department's appeal, the judge maintains that the exhibits must be reinstated to preserve the site's historical integrity.
