Dubai sugar giant maintains operations amid Strait of Hormuz tensions. Al Khaleej Sugar, the world's largest port-based sugar refinery, says it continues normal operations despite the US-Israeli conflict with Iran halting vessel traffic through the critical waterway. The company imports 1.6 million metric tonnes of raw sugar annually and exports 1.3 million tons of refined sugar, heavily dependent on Hormuz passage. However, management confirmed alternative ports in Fujairah, Khorfakan, and Sohar remain available for trade. Al Khaleej holds approximately two years of raw sugar reserves if unrefined and unexported, providing a significant buffer. The Gulf region faces mounting food security concerns as it imports 80 to 90 percent of its food supplies. The UAE's strategic reserves cover four to six months of needs.
