Workplace Injury Claims Grow More Complex as Recovery Times Extend. Travelers' analysis of over 1.2 million workers compensation claims reveals that despite declining injury rates, recovery times are lengthening to an average of 80 days. Employees aged 60 and older face significantly longer recoveries at 97 days, particularly from slips, trips and falls which account for 40% of their injuries. Meanwhile, first-year employees generate over one third of all workplace injuries despite representing a smaller workforce share. Construction leads industries with 114 lost workdays per injury, with first-year workers driving 47% of compensation costs. The findings underscore evolving workplace risks requiring renewed employer focus on safety protocols, new hire training, and structured return-to-work programs.
