The project involves constructing a deep-sea transshipment port, integrated township, dual-use airport, and power plant. While environmentalists have raised concerns about forest land diversion and tree cutting, the NGT emphasized the project's strategic importance for India's maritime security. The development aims to strengthen India's naval capabilities in the eastern Indian Ocean region, positioning critical infrastructure near vital maritime routes. By establishing a naval-capable deep-water port and airfield, the project will enhance surveillance and expand strategic reach. The tribunal determined that sufficient environmental safeguards are in place and approved the project's continued development.
