The Iran-Israel war has halted maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, forcing Petronet LNG to invoke force majeure with Qatar, its largest supplier. This disruption threatens one-third of India's energy basket. India's natural gas imports have surged from 28 percent in 2011-12 to 50 percent in 2024-25, making the country heavily dependent on foreign supplies. LNG tankers cannot reach Ras Laffan loading port, creating acute shortages in fertilizers and city gas distribution sectors.
