Kalgoorlie-Boulder Airport, one of regional Western Australia's busiest hubs, is set for a potential $100 million redevelopment as FIFO mining activity surges. The airport is tracking toward 550,000 passenger movements this financial year, more than double the volume recorded a decade ago. A KPMG feasibility study examining infrastructure upgrades will be presented to council this week. The existing terminal, built in 1992, requires significant investment to meet growing demand. Record metal prices are driving increased mining activity, with FIFO workers now outnumbering the local population of 30,000. The proposed expansion, estimated between $75 million and $100 million, could take close to a decade to complete and would include a full terminal refurbishment.
