Tesla is pushing for European approval of its full self-driving software, with talks underway with the Irish Government and other EU nations. The company aims to launch the technology across the region as summer approaches, following a 27% sales decline in Europe last year. The Netherlands became the first EU member to grant preliminary approval after 18 months of rigorous testing. Tesla's FSD is classified as Level 2+ autonomous driving, meaning it can control steering, braking and acceleration while allowing hands-off operation, though drivers must remain attentive. Unlike true self-driving systems, it requires active driver supervision and minimal intervention. The technology represents a middle ground between standard Level 2 systems and Mercedes-Benz's more advanced Level 3 Drive Pilot.
