India Finalizing Oil and Gas Supply Agreement with Mauritius
India is finalizing a government-to-government agreement to supply oil and gas to Mauritius, strengthening the island nation's energy security amid the ongoing West Asia crisis. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced the development during the 9th Indian Ocean Conference, emphasizing how regional geopolitical tensions have underscored the critical importance of strategic energy partnerships. The West Asia conflict and Iran's control of the Strait of Hormuz, through which one-fifth of global oil passes, have disrupted shipping and elevated oil prices worldwide. Beyond energy supply, India is expanding its renewable energy cooperation with Mauritius, including developing the country's first floating solar power project and delivering e-buses for sustainable transportation.
