Nike faces a significant class action lawsuit over alleged tariff refund mishandling. Consumers claim the company pocketed federal tariff refunds while charging them higher prices to offset roughly one billion dollars in import tariffs. According to the complaint filed in Portland federal court, Nike raised footwear prices by five to ten dollars and apparel by two to ten dollars. The lawsuit alleges Nike could recover tariff payments twice: once from consumers through inflated prices and again from the government through refunds. This case follows a February Supreme Court ruling that limited presidential tariff authority. Similar lawsuits have been filed against other major retailers including Costco, as over two thousand companies pursue tariff recovery claims in the U.S. Court of International Trade.
