Trump tariff refunds ordered by federal court. A US federal judge ruled that companies paying tariffs struck down by the Supreme Court last month are entitled to refunds. The Supreme Court found President Trump's sweeping import taxes, imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, were unconstitutional because taxation power belongs to Congress, not the president. The federal government collected over 130 billion dollars in these tariffs through mid-December and could owe up to 175 billion dollars in total refunds according to budget model calculations. Judge Richard Eaton will oversee refund cases and ordered customs to stop collecting the struck-down tariffs on goods still in the liquidation process. The ruling provides clarity on the refund process that the Supreme Court's February decision did not address.
