US egg prices have plummeted 60 percent from last year's record highs, bringing relief to consumers preparing for Easter and Passover celebrations. After bird flu devastated poultry flocks in early 2025, driving prices to an all-time high of 6.23 dollars per dozen in March, supply has rebounded significantly. Egg-laying hen populations grew 8 percent between July 2024 and July 2025, the first sustained increase since the outbreak began in 2022. Current prices now average 2.50 dollars per dozen in February 2026. However, this sharp decline creates challenges for farmers who struggle with profitability. Many are selling eggs at or below production costs, which average 1.05 dollars per dozen excluding labor and transportation. The Trump administration's decision to import nearly one billion eggs last year also contributed to lower prices, though imports have normalized.
