Anthropic Shifts Pricing Model for Claude Code Users. The AI startup has begun charging Claude Code subscribers additional fees to use its coding assistant with third-party tools like OpenClaw. As of April 4, users can no longer apply their subscription limits to third-party integrations and must instead pay through a separate pay-as-you-go option. Anthropic's head of Claude Code stated that subscription models weren't designed for the usage patterns these tools generate, citing the need to manage growth sustainably. OpenClaw's creator Peter Steinberger, who recently joined OpenAI, criticized the move, claiming Anthropic copied features into its closed system before restricting open-source access. The policy will eventually extend beyond OpenClaw to all third-party tools.
