India tightens telecom equipment security rules. The government is implementing stricter security testing requirements for telecom equipment including Wi-Fi routers, broadband devices, and fiber network gear. Major manufacturers like Nokia, Ericsson, Cisco, and Tejas Networks can no longer rely on temporary approvals or self-declarations. They must now clear mandatory security checks under the Communication Security Certification Scheme introduced in 2019. After six years, no equipment maker has fully complied with India's security standards. The new ComSec certification scheme 2026 will introduce graded certification with mandatory compliance for certain standards based on Indian Telecommunication Security Assurance Requirements.
