Balrampur Chini's biodegradable pivot. Sugar producer Balrampur Chini Mills is launching a major shift into sustainable materials with its new Poly Lactic Acid plant in Uttar Pradesh. The company expects the facility to generate approximately Rs 2,000 crore in annual revenue once operational in the December quarter. The plant, representing an investment exceeding Rs 3,000 crore, will produce 80,000 tonnes of PLA annually from renewable resources like sugarcane. This expansion diversifies Balrampur Chini's revenue streams beyond its traditional sugar business, which generated Rs 6,300 crore last fiscal. The company has already secured its first institutional order from Lucknow Cantonment Board and qualifies for incentives under Uttar Pradesh's Bio Plastic Industrial Policy 2024. Strong demand for biodegradable plastics positions the venture for full-capacity operations post-commissioning.
