SK hynix accelerates semiconductor expansion with massive investment. The South Korean chipmaker will inject an additional 21.6 trillion won, approximately 16.2 billion dollars, into its Yongin fabrication plant by 2030. Combined with prior commitments, total investment reaches 31 trillion won or 21.8 billion dollars. The capital deployment targets completion of structural construction and cleanroom development for phases two through six. SK hynix is prioritizing high-performance chips, particularly high-bandwidth memory critical for artificial intelligence applications. The company has accelerated cleanroom operations by three months, moving the startup date to February 2027 from May 2027. This aggressive expansion reflects surging global demand for advanced semiconductors and positions SK hynix to strengthen its competitive position against rivals in the HBM market segment.
