Gujarat's strawberry revolution transforms tribal farming. Production surged 65 percent in just three years, jumping from 140 metric tonnes in FY23 to 233 metric tonnes by FY26. Cultivation area expanded from 20 hectares to 33 hectares over the same period. Farmers in Dang district are shifting away from traditional, low-yield crops like paddy and nagli toward high-value horticulture. Government schemes, natural farming practices, and improved market linkages to urban centers are driving this agricultural transition. New strawberry varieties including Winter Dawn, Sweet Charlie, and Camaroza are reshaping the region's farming landscape. This structural shift offers farmers significantly higher incomes per hectare compared to traditional crops, addressing long-standing challenges of water scarcity and erratic rainfall that plagued conventional agriculture.
