Fertilizer demand surges in March across India. Government sales data reveals sharp spike in crop nutrient purchases, with urea sales reaching 20.21 lakh tonnes by March 23, significantly exceeding the monthly estimate of 14.96 lakh tonnes and surpassing last year's total for the entire month. DAP sales also jumped to 4.78 lakh tonnes against estimated demand of 2.43 lakh tonnes. The surge suggests farmers are actively stockpiling ahead of the planting season. Higher demand has been concentrated in key agricultural states including Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra. Week-on-week urea sales grew 56 percent between early and mid-March. Government officials confirm adequate stock levels to meet rising demand while monitoring daily sales figures closely across districts.
