Trump Administration Brokering Historic Israel-Lebanon Talks
The Trump administration announced that Israel and Lebanese leaders will begin direct negotiations Thursday, marking the first high-level talks between the two nations in 34 years. The announcement follows a trilateral meeting between U.S., Israeli, and Lebanese officials on Tuesday, the first major engagement since 1993. The U.S. is pushing for discussions to extend beyond a 2024 ceasefire agreement toward a comprehensive peace deal. The previous ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, reached in November 2024 after a yearlong conflict, collapsed in March when Hezbollah resumed fire. Regional tensions remain high as the U.S. seeks to broker a government-to-government agreement rather than separate negotiations.
