India's protein supply chain management is rapidly strengthening. A new benchmark shows Indian food companies nearly tripled their ESG performance scores from seven percent in 2023 to sixteen percent in 2025. Eleven of thirteen listed Indian food companies improved year-over-year, demonstrating accelerating commitment to responsible sourcing across meat, dairy, poultry and seafood sectors. The assessment reveals notable progress in supply chain traceability and labor practices. However, significant gaps persist in climate risk management and animal welfare standards. Most companies still lack comprehensive animal welfare policies with measurable targets. These findings position India as one of Asia's faster-moving markets in sustainable protein sourcing, though execution challenges remain widespread across the region.
